The theatrical enactment of this dramatic encounter is held throughout the country in which every section of people participates enthusiastically.

Forms of celebrations can take on a wide variety of manifestations, ranging from worshipping the goddess Chamundeshwari (Durga) to exhibiting colorful toys on the day of bombe habba in Kannada.

Telecom giant Airtel is all set to launch thier Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service. A senior company official announced this today. He said that the service will be available in 63 cities from 9th October.

Airtel on Tuesday announced the launch of its direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service.

“This is a right time for Airtel to enter the market. We are very clear at Airtel and will take over as a leader of the sector as soon as possible,” Airtel chief executive officer and managing director Manoj Kohli said.

Airtel DTH will be offering around 175 channels.

The state government employees are up in arms against the government over the issue of implementing the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations to hike their salaries. To register their protest, the employees carried out a huge rally in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon.

Other protest programmes such as going on a Mass Casual Leave and calling an indefinite strike are also on the cards if the government does not pay heed to their demand. The agitating employees have also threatened that the BJP government’s delaying the pay-hike might cost the party dear in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

The rally was carried out by different associations and federations of the state government employees under the umbrella of Guajrat Rajya Karmachari Sankalan Samiti (Gujarat State Employees Co-Ordination Committee) and was attended by thousands of state government employees.

The UGC Pay Review Committee has recommended a hike of over 70 per cent in the pay of university and college teachers, besides allowances. The panel, headed by G.K. Chadha, submitted its report to UGC chairman S.K. Thorat.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Prof. Chadha said: “We have created extra positions at the university and college level and no position has got less than a 70 per cent hike. There is a higher grade pay for every category.”

Instead of lecturers, there will now be assistant professors who will become assistant professors (senior scale) in four years and then be promoted assistant professor (selection grade) in five years. All the three will be in the new pay band of Rs.15,600-Rs. 39,100 with a different grade pay. The committee has proposed creation of a new post of senior professor for any teacher with 10 years of experience as professor.
