Baltimore Marathan october 2008

Baltimore Marathon is the flagship race of several races held in Baltimore, Maryland known collectively as the Baltimore Running Festival.

Runners from all 50 states and 28 countries including China will take part in the race.
“The fact that we’re close to 18,000 people is remarkable with all the other marathons around this time of year,” said Gene Brtalik of The Baltimore Running Festival.  “It just shows people from Maryland and people from all over are starting to catch onto what a great race this is.”

Baltimore Marathon at 42.195 kilometres (26.219 mi) begins at the Camden Yards sports complex and travels through many diverse neighborhoods of Baltimore, including the scenic Inner Harbor waterfront area, historic Federal Hill, and Fells Point.

Runners also run through Fort McHenry, birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner at Baltimore Marathon.

The race ends at virtually the same point at which it starts at Baltimore Marathon.

First 8 finishers of  Baltimore Marathon will recieve these awards 1st - $18,000, 2nd - $10,000, 3rd - $6,500, 4th - $4,000, 5th - $3,000, 6th - $2,000, 7th - $1,500, 8th - $1000. Good luck to all participants! You are allowed to drink powerade and gatorade.

Baltimore Marathon 2007

The 7th annual Baltimore Marathon took place on October 13, 2007 and drew a record 14,500 participants.

Under Armour, the Baltimore-based athletic apparel company, sponsors the event Baltimore Marathon.

The event Baltimore Marathon continues to draw record participants every year, making it one of the fastest growing marathons in the United States.

In 2007 Baltimore Marathon John Itati from Kenya won the men’s race with a time of 2:16:23, the third-best time in race history.

Fellow Kenyan Gladys Asiba won the women’s race at Baltimore Marathon with a time of 2:36:27.

At Baltimore Marathon Itati’s time was short of the course record of 2:14:51 he set in 2004.

Asiba’s finish time was just less than 45 seconds behind the women’s record set by Rima Dubovik the year before Baltimore Marathon.

The male and female winners of the Baltimore Marathon 2007 race each won $18,000.

Other races at Baltimore Marathon that take place are a half-marathon, team relay race, 5K race, and kids fun run.
