Airtel DTH set be launched on October 9

Telecom giant Airtel is all set to launch thier Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service. A senior company official announced this today. He said that the service will be available in 63 cities from 9th October.

Airtel on Tuesday announced the launch of its direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service.

“This is a right time for Airtel to enter the market. We are very clear at Airtel and will take over as a leader of the sector as soon as possible,” Airtel chief executive officer and managing director Manoj Kohli said.

Airtel DTH will be offering around 175 channels.

On pricing, airtel dth rates would be similar to those of existing DTH operators and higher than cable TV rates. DTH firms such as Tata Sky Ltd, an 80:20 joint venture between the Tata Group and Star Group; Dish TV Ltd, an Essel Group company; and Sun Direct TV Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Chennai-headquartered Sun TV Network Ltd and Malaysia’s South Asia Entertainment Holdings Ltd, charge between Rs30 and Rs300 (exclusive of taxes) a month for the service. So depending on the language and genre of channels, the monthly tariffs would range from Rs 125 to Rs 424

The company would also offer special deals for its eight million existing mobile, broadband and other customers.

The Airtel DTH service will use the so-called MPEG4 format for the first time in India with advanced security encryption systems. MPEG4, a media format used for compression of audio and video data in digital form, was introduced by the Moving Picture Experts Group in 1998.

Airtel had launched teaser advertising on major channels. If you are wondering what ‘See you at home soon’ advertisements are all about, it’s out finally. They are for Airtel DTH - a first for the brand in the entertainment services category. Airtel has launched a teaser campaign for its DTH service.

A big red couch with a red background with teasers is now showing on televsion. ‘See you at home soon’ it says.

For instance, one of the advertisements has warriors from Kenya’s Masai tribe standing next to the couch, while another has Cowboys. Both are indicative of infotainment packages.

Hope airtel dth brings out more to the consumers with its value packed performance.
